Although Kiss The Sky is a record store, first and foremost, we have always had a special place in our heart, and in our store, for the showcasing of live music. When we were in the “construction” stage of getting our first location ready during the summer and fall of 1996, we had a permanent stage built into the back part of our store.
Our first show was in the winter of 1997 and featured a local band comprised of primarily Batavia High School graduates. The band was called City Hall Fred.
Since that first show we have staged over a thousand individual shows with more than 2500 bands having graced the stages of two out of three of our different locations. We’ve had some bands of notoriety and there have been bands that were starting to make a bit of noise that went on to become noisier (15 Minutes Late … Lucky Boys Confusion … Fall Out Boy).
Live Music is where it’s at! Today, we have a regular weekly program that takes place on Saturday called the Saturday Morning and Saturday Afternoon Cafe.
In addition to the Saturday program, we also have Sunday evening shows from time to time they are called Live From Kiss The Sky. Those shows are generally an “event” of some kind, as in an album release, or a tribute of sorts, or it may even be a national touring act coming through town and stopping at the Kiss for a “special” show. Those shows will “pop up” and are not always known about way in advance. Hence, you need to stay in touch with our Calendar of Events to make sure that you are aware. You can also look to our Facebook calendar or subscribe to our Facebook Events to stay on top of the Kiss Live Music Scene.
Also, there is an annual Blues & Roots festival that we have a hand in creating and managing. The festival is a one day, two stage, all indoors, limited affair. 300 tickets are made available and the festival has been sold out the first two years of it’s existence. 2018 will be it’s third year. There’s a Facebook Page and Website established for that festival which will keep you informed and also provide you with past festival info.
And, as mentioned elsewhere on this website, we are involved with a new music venue that is scheduled to open the beginning of June 2019. For more info with respect to that, click here.
